IG: I haven’t been on my phone much, cuz I’m committed to being present and this is good 🌈 But had to capture last night’s beautiful sunset… woweeee, the water and the sand look like they’re gold and diamonds ✨ We’ve had a solid first week here ❤️

IG: Weeeeee made it! 👫✈️🌴 It’s always a trek. This time it was a 5.5 hour flight from Toronto to LA, no layover, a 6.25 hour flight from LA to Honolulu, and then another 35min flight to Molokai in our fave lil’ 9 seater interisland prop plane. We woke up at 4am EST and went to bed at 3am EST (aka 10pm HST), so, long long day. But always worth it. Today we are taking some time to acclimatize, settle in, and unwind. Jet lagged, but feeling so much grateful energy to be here once again. P.s., on another note, it’s a new moon today— are you setting any intentions for the next month? I’m going to take some time to write some out today!

IG: My 2019 summer garden has officially started! 🌱(whaaaaat? No onion emoji?!) Welp, it may be January 23, but I have started seeding the first of what will be in my 2019 garden— ONIONS! This will be my first year planting onions as I’ve never started early enough and haven’t had a desire to plant them from pre-grown sets… I like gettin’ dirty with seeds! Love this tip from @savvygardening about winter sowing onions in plastic containers🙌🏼. I’ve saved a container from microgreens, 2 from @nudl_artisan_pasta_gf pasta, and one from a @duffletpastries cake, and these containers have now graduated to onion incubators. Spinach/lettuce clamshells would work even better but I didn’t have any. To explain the process briefly, you poke drainage holes in bottoms and lids, plant your onion seeds* (*here in Ontario you want LONG-DAY onion varieties*) in about 3 inches of potting soil, and then LEAVE OUTSIDE until spring in a shady, protected spot. They lie dormant until it’s the perfect time for them to sprout, and then that’s when you begin to give them a little TLC (water, lid on/off, nighttime tuck-ins on cold nights.) Then, as soon as your soil can be worked in early spring (mid to late March or so here in zone 5) you plant these babies in the garden! I’ll link the full how-to article in my profile. Thanks again for this simple tip @savvygardening! Sooo looking forward to my own organic onions this year 🙌🏼 🌱🌱🌱

IG: ⬆️CANADA’S LATEST FOOD GUIDE ⬆️ (this graphic is IT!) What are your thoughts? Personally, I think this is wayyyyy better than ever before. (Though the bar was pretty low😆). Sad that healthy fats that support so many key functions in our body aren’t included in the main imaging, but previous guides recommended we use “vegetable oils such as canola and soybean oil…[and] limit butter” which couldn’t be more horribly wrong for our health🤦🏻‍♀️. So I guess no recommendation is better than awful recommendation? And at least this one doesn’t explicitly recommend that we eat bagels, cereal, canned milk, soy beverages and drink juice? 😱 On the positive side, loving the new recommendations for ‘eating habits’ like: •“Take time to eat” •“Notice when you are hungry and when you are full” •”Cook more often” •“Plan what you eat” •“Involve others in planning and preparing meals” •“Enjoy your food” •“Eat meal with others” 🙌🏼 OF COURSE I don’t 100% agree with this guide (will I ever?!) but it’s certainly a HUGE step in the right direction, Canada! Way to go

IG: It’s Blue Monday, aka ‘the most depressing day of the year’!🤷🏻‍♀️ According to the guy who made it up over 10 years ago for a travel company marketing campaign [and with no scientific backing] the third Monday in January is the pinnacle of BLAGHHH due to a combo of factors and variables like: ❄️cold poopy weather 💸holiday debt 🎅🏼the end of Christmas 💪🏼failed New Year’s resolutions and 🙇🏻‍♂️general low motivation levels • Even though Blue Monday isn’t a REAL thing, I’m feeling pretty wonky today from this full-lunar-eclipse-wolf-blood-super moon and this new LEGIT winter weather that I’m already decidedly over🌬 (holy, cold!). Soooo, here’s a pic of me with a rainbow unicorn and some advice to get you through today: 🌈do something silly and laugh 🌈eat some cozy & warming real food like a big hearty stew or chicken soup 🌈do a workout or get some kind of movement in. Yoga, weights, stretching, dancing… you decide 🌈write down 3 things you are grateful for 🌈go to bed early and revel in this hibernation time of year without guilt • HAPPY BLUE MONDAY!
