IG: How to combat stress: You’ve heard it before but I’m gonna say it again. Go for a walk in nature. It’s that simple (ok maybe not as simple for you downtown Toronto dwellers 😞) I’m under a lot of stress right now. I’m selling the childhood home my parents purchased 45 years ago that I was, quite literally, born in, and that I have lived in and taken care of for the last 11 years. I’ve just started a new functional medicine health coaching certification course. I’m in the slow and painful process of doing small renovations and moving into a new house, an hour away. I’ve been driving back and forth way too much. And there’s more personal stuff on top of this that I won’t get into. But it’s all a lot at once for one person to handle on their own, and the stress has been seriously winning this week; I’m a bit of a wreck. My savior yesterday was the 2 hour hike through the woods I decided to do. I was about to drive back to Toronto but I googled the travel time and it was stupid, so I said f*** it, go walk instead and leave afterwards. So I walked / hiked and simultaneously listened to my course content webinars and also visited 2 places on my Hamilton / Dundas bucket list. It was the most therapeutic and productive 2 hours that I could have had. Anyway, we all go through stressful times but knowing how to effectively manage that stress is key. So get out into nature and go for a walk if you’re feeling nutty, it’s scientifically proven to calm you down 👌🏼 Bonus: after your hike cuddle a dog or a cat 😍

IG: Popcorn on its cob! So cool! 🌽 I mean, I knew popcorn kernels originated on a cob, but this city girl has really only seen the popcorn kernels sold sans cob as of yet…🤷🏻‍♀️ If this was organic I tottttally would have gotten some at @dundasfarmersmkt yesterday. You don’t have to buy everything organic but corn is a heavily (pesticide) sprayed crop and very often GMO so unless I’m at a restaurant on a special occasion I’m likely not going to eat or buy corn on the cob or popcorn unless it’s organic. Do you follow the dirty dozen/clean fifteen produce list or have non-negotiables for ‘must-be-organic’?

IG: This one’s for you: breakdowns are ok. 🤚🏼 This is me in my moment of breakdown today. RAW AF. Here’s the story: Our house was officially listed for sale today and I was trucking along, packing, cleaning, organizing, sorting and purging when I heard a knock on the door. I answered it and it was a real estate agent who stepped inside. She introduced herself and let me know she was here to run the agent openhouse that was happening in TEN MINUTES ➡️ that I wasn’t informed about. Meanwhile, I’m in my pajamas, hair like this, and personal items and boxes EVERYWHEREEE as I was deep into the packing process. Also, an injured mouse in a large Tupperware container on the counter and a tube of my frozen urine sample in the freezer for functional medicine re-testing that I was waiting on Fedex to come pick up. Turns out, not sure what happened, but everyone else BUT me was informed of the open house today. So together and in 10 uber-stressful minutes, we did what we could to tidy the place up (and disorganize all my piles etc.) and make it somewhat acceptable for the strangers I was not expecting today. I then quickly got dressed in real clothes and exited as agents pulled up. Flooded with mega fight or flight stress chemicals, a couple minutes later, I pulled to the side of the road in my car and broke down into tears. Feeling so unprepared, caught off-guard and invaded + the stress of having to disorganize my ‘organized chaos’ just for other people was intense. Sooo what is the moral of this story? 1. You have breakdowns and so do I and it’s ok. Though I’d like it to be, not everyday is hummingbirds and flowers. Some days are hard. 2. It’s ok to let it out. I’m bad at this so it usually cumulates into larger breakdowns like this and I fight them hard. But our mind/spirit/body needs a release here and there. 3. When things feel overwhelming, talk to people you love & trust. I shared this shitty story with 3 close people and felt so much calmer after. 4. Breathe— even when stress peaks and things feel like the end of the world, they’re not and it’s very likely going to be OK. Promise. 🤚🏼 (story continued in comments)

IG to our CHICKENS in the city last year via @rentthechicken 🐓🐓🐓. This is GretcHEN. I hate to play favorites but she was ma girrrrrl❣️! Definitely missed those ladies dearly this year but it was just a little too much with the whole moving out of Toronto scenario that is currently taking place. What are your thoughts on chickens, would you ever consider having them?

IG: Redefining “FAST FOOD” ✨ This is my fast food. I came back to my Toronto garden after being at our new house in Dundas for a week and there this all was, ready for me to eat. Quick, easy, nutritious and tasty AF. Truly “fast food”. Sure, there’s a time and place for junky food here and there, but if you’re making the effort to eat THIS kinda goodness on the regular, I promise you’re gonna be ok. Opting for the nourishing, vibrant, colorful and whole (AND learning how to produce it yourself!) is a huge advantage to you and your family. What are your thoughts?

IG: Yup, we absolutely chose the right place to move✨. Feeling more “at home” than I have in a while. Went on a 3hr “study hike” last night. My new functional medicine health coaching course has a lot of webinars to watch or listen to, so I chose to listen while exploring my new hood (aka walking through the woods) last night. I turned my phone onto airplane mode, hopped on a trail I’d never been on not far from our house, and just let it take me where it wanted. 3 hours later I was tired and navigating the way home in deep darkness (😅), but it was such a beautiful night and a wonderful experience. Plus, the best kind of multi-tasking— I covered a lot of ground and a lot of course content! Body + Mind ☺️. So excited to make this a regular thing as a means of getting to know my new area, getting exercise, connecting with nature and studying (but I will start a bit earlier in the day next time 😳). Heading back to Toronto tonight for tomorrow’s JJ Virgin DFH Mastermind for health practitioners and Saturday’s long anticipated Archangel Summit 2018. Time for a little self development inspo (then I can get back to the woods). Anyone else going?

IG: Happy fake Monday and back-to-school to all the teachers and students out there! 👋🏼 Here’s a video from this weekend to brighten your day; Neville caught his first snake and brought it to the front door welcome mat for us 🤦🏻‍♀️. Thanks for the gift, bud). Don’t worry, I put the snake back…fortunately I have zero fear of snakes 😆.

IG: In just a few days, I embark on a new and exciting path 😁 ❕ After experiencing my own massive health transformation through functional medicine that began just under a year ago (shoutout to @drnavazhabib, @thesachinpatel at The Living Proof Institute 🙌), I have felt passionately compelled to share my experience with others who are struggling with health challenges and become professionally involved in what will, by necessity, become the FUTURE OF MEDICINE. ❕ SO, as of Sept. 1, 2018, I begin my training to become a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach (FMCHC)! ❕ What is a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach? We are Functional Medicine’s “boots on the ground”; the guides who help clients create sustainable behaviour change through positive psychology principles and really put the functional medicine practitioner’s plan into action. ❕ SUPPORT… it’s huge. As a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach I’ll be working alongside Functional Medicine practitioners and will provide the one-on-one support, guidance, mentorship and accountability necessary for our clients to achieve the vitality they’ve been searching for and ultimately THRIVE. ❕ Being a Certified Nutritional Practitioner already (Holistic Nutritionist) I am merely building on the insight, knowledge and experience I have already acquired (and constantly continue to acquire), but in more of a team approach and in a system of practice and direction that I feel is much more comprehensive and conducive to lasting, sustainable wellness, vitality and lifelong health transformations. ❕ I am SO EXCITED to become a part of the Functional Medicine movement that has transformed my own, and the lives of so many others already, because HEALTH IS WEALTH y’all. ❕ With all the love and excitement, ❕ Laura Franklin, CNP [and future FMCHC!] ❕ P.S. link in profile to a short vid that explains functional medicine and the role of coaching if you’re interested in learning more. ❤️❤️❤️

In just a few days, I embark on a new and exciting path 😁

After experiencing my own massive health transformation through functional medicine that began just under a year ago (shoutout to @drnavazhabib, @thesachinpatel at The Living Proof Institute 🙌), I have felt passionately compelled to share my experience with others who are struggling with health challenges and become professionally involved in what will, by necessity, become the FUTURE OF MEDICINE.

SO,
as of Sept. 1, 2018, I begin my training to become a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach (FMCHC)! ❕
What is a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach?
We are Functional Medicine’s “boots on the ground”; the guides who help clients create sustainable behaviour change through positive psychology principles and really put the functional medicine practitioner’s plan into action.

SUPPORT… it’s huge.
As a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach I’ll be working alongside Functional Medicine practitioners and will provide the one-on-one support, guidance, mentorship and accountability necessary for our clients to achieve the vitality they’ve been searching for and ultimately THRIVE.

Being a Certified Nutritional Practitioner already (Holistic Nutritionist) I am merely building on the insight, knowledge and experience I have already acquired (and constantly continue to acquire), but in more of a team approach and in a system of practice and direction that I feel is much more comprehensive and conducive to lasting, sustainable wellness, vitality and lifelong health transformations.

I am SO EXCITED to become a part of the Functional Medicine movement that has transformed my own, and the lives of so many others already, because HEALTH IS WEALTH y’all.

With all the love and excitement,

Laura Franklin, CNP [and future FMCHC!]
