Anything the chickens can’t eat (or just don’t enjoy) gets composted and eventually put pack into the garden, and otherwise the ladies feast on organic goodness from ugly or insect-damaged plant parts or when I overharvest and we have no time to eat it (like here–too much kale, oops). In turn, they provide us with the most amazing nutrient-dense fresh eggs. It’s a win-win for everyone and the planet. If you can’t do chickens (I get it…), start off by composting with a small composter. There are plenty of indoor models that are made for small spaces, apartments, condos etc., so no excuses really
