Ask a restaurant, Starbucks, your friends… I traded a couple beers for 5 black ones on @bunz_official, haha. Step 2: line them with 1-2 reusable shopping bags. You know, those cheap thin fabric ones you got for free and that you can rip holes in if you pull them too hard? Those are PERFECT (Not canvas or plastic lined/higher quality ones). Step 2: line them with 1-2 reusable shopping bags. You know, those cheap thin fabric ones you got for free and that you can rip holes in if you pull them too hard? Those are PERFECT (Not canvas or plastic lined/higher quality ones). Use 1 big one to line the whole thing or cut 2 smaller ones up.
Step 3: fill your crate with good organic soil. I love @promixgardening organic vegetable and herb mix, and I combine that with some of my own rich compost, but if you don’t have compost, just the soil itself is AWESOME!

I closed in the chickenwire tomato enclosure that Jeff built me last summer using scrap plastic I found around the house and popped an old shelf in there… the front is a $2 Dollarama shower curtain I used as a drop cloth for painting, one side is a Goodwill donation bag, one is another random clear plastic bag, the roof is some ancient plastic sheet also used for a paint drop cloth and the back wall is an old blue cotton sheet. All secured with hockey tape and a little masking tape. But hey, it was basically zero degrees Celsius last night and they were fine this morning, so it WORKS! I mean, there was no point in spending money on this hilarious venture or trying to make it look good when it’s totally temporary. Plus it’s funnier this way

Think of it as “superfood” for your garden. Are you just giving your plant-waste away to the city /town to deal with (green bin), or worse yet, throwing it in THE GARBAGE ??! I won’t compost-shame here, but I want to let you know that it’s sooo easy, anyone can do it, if you are a gardener or farmer it is a MUST, and you can still do it if you live in an apartment, condo or small home without must of a yard (composters for the urban dweller exist!). I will be using this compost (started last summer) to feed my soil and my garden this year. It is the ultimate cyclic, earth-friendly, happy planet practice. Wheeeeeee compost P.s. Urban farming at its finest– you improvise! I’ve grown 100% of my seedlings from organic/heirloom seed this year and I have a BUNCH more I still want to sprout (but am panicking because I don’t have the room?! Oh no!!).
