IG: Lactofermenting some of my freshly picked organic mini dill cucumbers and cucamelons today ??! This is the traditional process of pickling that utilizes raw vegetables and the natural presence of healthy probiotic lactobacillus bacteria (hence “lacto fermentation”). There is NO VINEGAR whatsoever here, as with 99% of pickles you will find on store shelves, which are quick-pickled in a boiling vinegar/salt brine and do not contain healthy probiotics. This traditional lactofermentation process takes much longer to produce pickles than quick-pickling with vinegar (about 2 weeks minimum) but maintains the raw nutrients of the vegetable, contains those probiotics I spoke of, are free of preservatives and are equally, if not more, delicious. It’s just a matter of patience, which we all need more of these days anyway! Lactofermentation is simple, requiring only a brine of chlorine-free filtered water + salt (I used Himalayan) and spices of your choice; I have added bay leaves, fresh garlic, fresh dill, peppercorns and mustard seeds. Now Weinstein leave them and wait ??‍?

IG: Feeling my mom’s presence as the veggies and flowers that I sprouted from her organic seed stash come up (like this beautiful sunflower). I came home yesterday to the golden light (her favourite time of day) shining on this first to bloom, and really felt her❤️. Missing her so much each day, but she’s with me in so many ways. Gardening has been such a beautiful, therapeutic, grounding activity that really compliments the grieving and healing process in such a healthy way

IG: Progress… The word is very different to each person. I debated posting this for so many reasons: 1) my “progress” isn’t drastic or shocking as many progress pictures are these days. The truth is, I’ve been an athlete for years, fairly conscious of my health for a while now, and relatively the same size and shape for, well, most of my life. 2) I don’t take too many pics of myself and my “before” picture (May 2016) is the only one I have, I wish there was one from when I actually consistently got back to the gym (January 2017) after a 6 month hiatus. 3) I’m a super private person and it’s a bit out in the open for me. But fuck it. I want to show you that progress can be minimal and still celebrated. I’m stronger, leaner and more toned now, I have a bigger bootay, and I FEEL good in my skin. I have a deeper relationship with my body and listen to it. I don’t push myself to the limits of exhaustion I once did and I give my body lots of rest. I work hard at the right times, but I am kind to myself. And this, my friends, is progress that deserves to be celebrated. So show yourself some love and join me to celebrate your progress today, as big or small as it may be?????? Left – May 2016 Right – July 2017 (today!)

IG: Do your salads excite you? If not, you’re doing them all wrong. Chowing down on this flavorful creation right now and I couldn’t be happier. You can step up the flavor by adding fresh herbs like basil, mint and parsley and spices like crushed chili pepper flakes. To prolong satiety and add richness, add fats from avocado, goat cheese (in moderation and if you tolerate it well) and some kickass oil like MCT, hemp, avocado or EVOO (you can also add some soaked nuts and seeds if you so desire… or a little high quality bacon here or there ?) . Some ferments like@kimchi or sauerkraut are also a happy-gut, flavorful addition ??. Ok time to finish eating this masterpiece, byeee?

IG: Spicing up the garden with some jalapeños this year ?. Saved some seeds from an organic jalapeño I was eating and grew me some pepper plants (dear inexperienced gardeners: yes it can be THIS easy, you don’t always have to buy seeds). This is my first jalapeño growing experience so far, so I’m pretty excited about this little guy’s progress

IG: My curly kale patch in my keyhole garden is finally making some headway?! The keyhole gardens were a new addition that I dreamt up early spring of this year and built by removing an old evergreen shrub, extending the existing non-edible garden bed, ditching some grass and then digging old bricks into the ground to create two “walkways” (there are 3 long beds, like a big lowercase “m”). BUT, these were a bit of an experiment and a risky move, because they’re completely vulnerable to the myriad of digging animals that visit from the nearby ravine. Each day is a new surprise of what’s been dug up, but overall, the things that survived this assault are finally starting to take off
